Working from Home? Here’s 5 Top Tips to Get the Most out of your STAR® Manager Programme

We’ve designed your STAR® Manager programme so that you can complete it ANYTIME, ANY PLACE and via ANY DEVICE. This means you can progress through your programme just as quickly and effectively when you’re working from home as you can when you are in the office.

In light of new social distancing measures and travel restrictions the flexibility that STAR® Manager offers you is more important than ever.

However, if you’re a novice homeworker, you may benefit from a few hints and tips that will help you to take advantage of some of STAR® Manager’s key features.

So here are 5 top tips to get the most out of your STAR® Manager programme when working from home

Use your quiet time and space for reading and reflection exercises

It can be hard finding time to read and reflect in a busy office when there are so many distractions around you so use your quiet time at home to make swift progress through the reading and reflection exercises in your STAR® Manager programme.

Home, not so quiet after all?

If you’re living with other people in lockdown try negotiating a thirty-minute ‘quiet slot’ each day so that you can concentrate. If you have demanding children at home, try coordinating your reading and reflection time with their quieter activities, e.g. watching the TV, reading a book, or that all-important gaming time.

The beauty of STAR® Manager is that you can log on at any time so if you can’t find a quiet time throughout the day, you could try reading and reflection in the evening or first thing in the morning. Remember that just a few minutes of reflection each day can improve your performance by 23%.

Break up the monotony of isolation with the fun videos and tutorials

STAR® Manager is full of fun, entertaining and engaging content so break up your day by doing short bursts of your STAR® Manager programme. Learn while you’re enjoying yourself; whether you’re watching a member of the team from Rocket or one of our world-class Executive Coaches in action, you’ll always have a smile on your face.

Practise on your friends and family

The skills you learn in your STAR® Manager programme are universally beneficial. As you develop your coaching capability you will start to change the way you approach different situations. Don’t be afraid to try your new skills out on your friends and family.

For example, if you hear one of your children say “I can’t do it!” instead of doing something for them, what could you do or say instead? What have you learnt in your STAR® Manager programme that you can apply in that situation? Watch what happens next and don’t forget to record your successes and reflect on what you would do differently next time for even better results.

Attend as many Live Learning Stations as you can and get the support (and company) you need

You may be in isolation but you don’t have to feel isolated because there are lots of live elements in your STAR® Manager programme. There will be no disruptions to the Live Learning Stations during your programme so make sure you attend as many as you can so that you can benefit from the expertise and support of our world-class Coaches as well as other learners on the programme.

Listening to others, sharing your own stories and asking those burning questions will help you deal with all the new situations you’re experiencing for the first time, for example: How can you use your new skills to manage a remote team?

Leverage your new skills to help you manage others remotely

It’s important to keep front of mind why you’re doing the STAR® Manager programme. As you progress through the programme you will learn brand new skills and develop new capabilities that will help you to increase your management effectiveness. STAR® Manager helps you to quickly learn and apply an ‘Enquiry-Led Approach’ (ELA®) to leadership which is a more flexible and bespoke way of leading that will help you deal with new and unexpected scenarios including how to manage people isolated at home.

Remember, even from a distance, you can still complete your STAR® Manager missions as each mission is completely bespoke to your needs and the needs of your team. In fact with STAR® Manager you can deliver high levels of engagement, better performance and productivity all from the comfort of your home thereby helping to secure the business during these tough times.
